One Chat Closer

Some things are better understood with another person in the room.

One Chat Closer is the conversational side of Books, Beans & Things: notice something worth carrying, then invite another person to help you see what you may not see alone.

A simple practice

Conversation does not have to end in agreement to move us forward.

Bring one thing.

Start with one idea, question, experience, or discovery. You do not need an agenda.

Stay curious.

Ask before explaining. Listen for what the other person sees, knows, or has lived.

Leave with something.

A better question, a changed view, a useful connection, or simply better understanding can be enough.

Questions worth taking with you

You do not need a script. A good question is enough.

What do you see here that I might be missing?
What has your experience taught you about this?
Where do you disagree with me—and why?
What question should I be asking instead?
What would this look like in real life?
What is worth carrying from this conversation?
Make room for the conversation

The place can help.

Coffee shops, walks, porches, lunch tables, parks, bookstores, and other unhurried places can make good conversation easier. Future One Chat Closer guides will include meeting ideas, conversation practices, question sets, and other ways to make the next chat more useful.
